When I was thinking of buying a metal detector, the first name that came to me was Garrett, I have known of them for a long time. The just make a good quality, easy to operate, water proof, multi coil machine, in my opinion they have the best machines on the market today.

Metal detecting is not a cheap hobby to get into, I did not realize this until after I had to buy all the items I needed. First you buy yourself a shiney new metal detector, then you realize you need a pinpointer, digging trowel, backpack, shovel, hiking boots, snake guards, sand scoop, buckets, fanny pack, batteries, machete, survival knife, maps, gps, gas money, water, brushes, rock tumbler, coin cleaning supplies, electrolysis set up, it can go on and on. Then once you have all the gear you need it's time for research, hours upon hours of reading books and searching the web. To do one hunt you may spend one to two weeks or more researching it, once you find a great spot though, it can produce good finds for months or years. I personally think this is one of the best hobbies there is, as long as you follow the metal detecting code of honor. Yes, there is a code to follow when you go metal detecting. It's sorta like a good samaritan code really, cut plugs so you don't ruin peoples yards, clean up trash, even off your spare time for free if people near you lose a metallic object. Do a google search you may have a local club near you, who can give you advice and help you learn your new machine.
